Eight Minutes and Counting

So the Wi-Fi in my house goes off at exactly 8:00pm Central Time like clock work. So I have eight minutes, now seven and counting to talk about whatever crosses my mind. I can't guarantee it will be coherent, but I have little time so I'll get started.
Today was awesome. I am the manager of the volleyball team at my high school and I get to work with these amazingly talented girls. And even the ones that aren't as talented as the rest are not only brave as hell but stronger than a cement brick coated in steel. They work hard and they perfect their skills, each and every one of them to the best of their abilities. It's quite frankly amazing.
Five minutes, man time flies fast. Speaking of time, I can't wait for school to start. Only five more days. My little sister and I have been counting down since school ended. Both for different reasons. She only wanted to go back to see her friends again and I want to go back because like I've said before, I thrive in school./
On last thing, my school is completely different. Well, maybe not completely. They remodeled though and I don't like it. One of the doors is bigger than the other. I sound crazy I know but I'll post a picture of it when I can.
Wow, done with two minutes to spare.
Anyways...Good night, world.

Junior Year...Followed by the Rest of Your Life

School is about to start. And don't get me wrong, I love school. I'm the odd child that absolutely thrives in school. I flourish where others feel oppressed. Why? I have no idea, but I love the structure that it gives me. It gives me something to do, something to master and survive.
But this school year is frightening. I'm going to be a junior. This is the year I need to get things sorted out. I need to decided what schools I'm going to apply to and have an idea of what I'm going to major in, even if I end up changing my mind.
The most frightening thing to me is that I want to work in a field that not everyone has what it takes. And if I don't have what it takes, what am I going to do? I only ever wanted to work in a field that will never feel like a job but something I love.
I have absolutely no idea what to do.
I guess it comes down to having confidence in yourself and being able to trust yourself enough to make the right decisions and not only that but be able to follow through on those decisions and work hard to get to be where you want, dream and aspire to be.
Well, until next time...what do you want to do that you're afraid to? Whether it's talk to someone or choosing a career, let me know.

Little Sample...

Okay so if you check out The Mumblers like I suggested and you've heard the track 'Black Magic' here's something that it inspired. Please tell me what you think about it. Feedback is AWESOME!

He was a bad ass for sure. It wasn't of those things where he just thought he was a bad ass either. He really was one. He is the one you see walk down the street and people look down, mothers turn a different way and children are scolded for looking at him. He wore a black t-shirt and dark washed jeans. He wore biker boots that made a low click sound like steel toed cowboy boots. He held onto a leather jacket that hung over his shoulder and he had a cigarette hanging loosely out of the corner of his mouth. His black sunglasses that finished off the cool but bad ass effect reflected the image before him: me.
He stopped and took the cigarette out and dropped it to the ground, smashing it under his boot. He coolly took his sunglasses off and looked me over. He sure didn't see much and it reflected in his gaze. What was there to see in a short girl with long, flat, brown hair and plain blue eyes ? Especially wearing a baggy t-shirt and loose fitting jeans. He raised one golden eyebrow. I was certainly not the type of girl he’d been hoping to attract.
It didn't matter though. It didn't matter what he thought he was, who he thought I was, or what vibe he gave off, I wasn't going to let him intimidate me. I was here for a reason and by damn he was going to answer me. “Where is Luke Keller?” I said firmly, hands on my hips.
His eyebrow went a little higher, but this time he wasn't displaying disappointment in the way I looked but he was impressed. “And why should I tell you, little lady?”
I took a few steps towards him and he took one step back. “Because my brother is in some serious trouble.” He ran his hand through his golden hair, put his shades back on, and started walking away from me. “Excuse me, but where do you think you’re going?”
He stopped and turned to face me once more, looking at me from underneath his sunglasses. “You weren't supposed to come here, Lily.”
One word ran through my head: Luke.

So it's been a while...

...Sorry that it's been a while. I've been trying to focus on writing for the past week or so. I've been looking and finding inspiration everywhere which seems to be the problem because I don't know how to boil it down to what I want to create a character. I've found it in music by Antonio Pinto's score for The Host, the little ways actors characterize themselves in varying movies and the music of The Mumblers, a small little group formed by actor Jake Abel and his spouse Allie Wood (check them out by the way at http://themumblers.bandcamp.com/album/black-magic.)
But how do you write a story? I've heard you focus on the characters, but even if I did create the characters, how do I point them in the right direction. How do I make it coherent? I guess I'll figure it out eventually, but until then I guess I'm left with the series of images in my mind I have trouble putting into words.

Making Life Beautiful

Making Life Beautiful...Now if you're keeping up with me, you just heard me babble on about how I believe each person's life is a piece of art and it is always under construction, in progress, never finished until they have passed on. You also heard me say that I want to make life as beautiful as possible. Well, here is an example of someone making life gorgeous and wonderful and lovely. Click on the link to find out more.
Oh and before I finish...I don't know if you can still see it in the comments, but they raised the money in less than 15 minutes for this kid.

What is 'Art in Progress'?

Hey again!
How was your Thursday?
Mine was kind of hot, but it was fun. My mom, my sisters and I went and visited Pontiac, IL today and we saw the most amazing thing: air-brushed black light dresses. Now we only saw 4 but I found pictures online of all 5.

They reminded me to explain just exactly what the heck my blog title even means.
Like I've said I'm going to be a junior this year in high school and I have to start applying to colleges and figuring out what I am going to be doing with my life.
I personally want to do something in art because seeing things like this inspire me just as much as listening to music on an iTunes commercial. Silly maybe, but it's how I am. It's just about as quirky as hearing a few words and piecing together an entire short story in my head.
However, I also like to think that we are all pieces of art and our life is a picture, a sculpture, a song, anything but it won't ever be finished until we die. I personally want to make it as inspirational and beautiful as possible.
What about you? What do you want to do? What are you doing?

Music Corner

Hello again!
So like you might have noticed, I'm new at this blog thing and I can't guarantee I will post everyday, especially after school starts up because I am a definite overachiever and proud of it! But I thought that maybe every Wednesday, to the best of my ability I can suggest/ review an artist, a song, an album...something like that.
Well, this week, I'd like to suggest Rob Simonsen's 'Red.' He wrote it originally for the iPhone 5 commercial 'Music Every Day.' And while it is not available for download on iTunes, I'm sure you can find it somewhere if you really want to. For me, it's kind of happy and hopeful. It makes me smile.  The commercial is down below and if you like that, you can also check out 'Blue' below it for the iPhone 5 'Photos Every Day.'

Well, that's it for now in the Music Corner! I hate to sound like a cheesy talk show host or something, but...(clears throat) Join us next time in the Music Corner to hear about who knows what! Too much? Well, too late now. Bye!

As Summer Ends, School Begins...

First actual topic:  School Year 2013-2014!
Okay so I have a feeling I'm going to be the odd one out right now, but I actually love school.. I can't wait for it to start back up. I like my teachers, I like the schedule so I'm not lying around doing nothing, and I like my friends. But it's junior year which means the ACT and the PSAE. You have to start filling out applications and finding out where you want to go and get it narrowed down. It's a crazy amount of pressure.
It's going to be a good year though. I have new teachers for art, biology, Spanish, and English. I have a chance to finally audition for a lead part for the theater production this fall and I'm a volleyball manager too!On another note, my little sister is going to be a freshman!
But what I'm looking most forward to is Homecoming. Sure it's in October, but I get excited just thinking about it. I love the feeling as fall rolls into my little town. I love float building, and not to brag or anything, but my class won the float building competition our freshman and sophomore years. We're shooting for another victory this year.
Anyways, there is a poll at the bottom of the page for what you like the most school and one about superhero powers...random, I know, but I'm curious.
Anyways, I promise to get some more pictures up in the Picture Gallery, but until then, I'm signing out.

Painfully Awkward Intro

Hello, people of all sorts! My name is Katrina. I'm going to be a junior in high school and I thought this might be a cool thing for colleges to look at, you know. I've seen them ask for URLs for your Facebook or something that will impress them. For any admission reps. looking at this right now: hey! Anyways, this is my first blog and I'm kind of winging it. To give a quick intro about what will be going down here: art, music, and the exploration of life! That sounds cheesy, but I promise to make it fun and please give me feedback because I'd love to hear from you.
